MEET YOUR OMD
by Maryann B. Fitchett

Richard M. Hatch, MD can be found quite often at Shore Memorial Hospital Emergency Room where he is ER Director.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Hatch attended Eastern Virginia Medical School and is certified in family practice medicine. He made the Eastern Shore his home in 1997.

Among some of his other occupations, otherwise known as “before Dr. Hatch,” he was a truck driver delivering cotton, a nursing assistant in a nursing home and an ER tech for two years, with one of those years being at Norfolk General Hospital.

With a witty sense of humor, when asked “What brought you to the Eastern Shore?” he quickly replies, “A 1976 Chevy Van.”

He enjoys hunting and fishing and can be sighted on the water -  whether it is the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore’s Inlet waters or the Atlantic Ocean as Captain of his Parker 2520XL Boat named the Escape Hatch.

One of his latest endeavors is “smoking.”  Hatch can smoke-cook a mean, pulled-pork BBQ. Although one can’t be too quick to let him know that it is absolutely delicious because the more he practices the more great food he will share with the ER staff.

He and his wife Karen have made Franktown their hometown.
